Waking up in Paris is so unreal. Like I am in Paris! I don't think I will ever get used to that one.
Following breakfast today Rosie and I took a walk in Luxembourg gardens because she really wanted to see the royal gardens. They were looking much better than I had seen them last winter but we're not yet at full springtime peak with all the flowers.
I had never seen the Arc the Triomphe so that was our next spot. The architecture in Europe blows me away. It was just an arch but there were so many details carved into the sides and top. Apparently, you can go up to the top but we didn't have time for that. I really wanted macarons so we stopped at the famous La Duree where I picked 3 macrons - cherry blossom, coconut, and pistachio. The pistachio one was my favorite!
I was still on the hunt for a cute floral cafe but we found a cafe called Cafe Azul that had very good reviews and was close by. The cafe lived up to its reviews as the food there was very good. I had an eggplant dish in some kind of cream sauce with a mango Pina colada.
All of CES headed to the Château de Versailles next. The palace was about an hour away. When we got there, it was insane. There were so many tourist buses and the line to get in was crazy long.
The palace was majestic and each room was so ornately decorated. I would just look up and the first words that came to my mouth were "wow". The palace of mirrors was of course the most gorgeous room of all! The paintings on the ceilings were so large and really stood out with all the gold around it.
The Palace of Versailles has been something I have been dying to do since I last came to France and it was definitely worth the wait. Unfortunately, it was so crowded that I felt pushed through each room like a sardine and had no time to really enjoy the art. We also had less than 2 hours to view the whole palace. I would definitely return on a weekday when it is hopefully less busy and check out the gardens as well.
