Porto Round 2

For breakfast we had our usual pastel de natas this time from a bakery boasting that they have the no. 1 paste de natal. Well, their pastel de natas were definitely one of the best if not the best. I loved that the crust was thin and flaky. They were still warm and fresh. Like the bakery yesterday, you could see the chef making them in the window as well.

Today we spent the day exploring Porto again. I really wanted to find scenic viewpoints of the bridge so Greg and I wandered off to walk across the two bridges. There was no one there, which was refreshing from the crowded streets. We had way too much fun clowning around.

The houses on the waterfront of Porto are all run-down and abandoned. There was rent control in the city for about 30 years so a lot of the properties remained untouched for years and now look like slums. The Portugal economy is now running off of tourism and the golden visa scheme that just ended. Portugal also gets a lot of money from Germany who pays for infrastructure projects like new roads and metro. I think anywhere else waterfront properties would be highly coveted for the views it offers. After all, the waterfront offers very pretty views of the city.

Babaloo and I returned from our adventure a couple hours later after getting boba and then we waited outside the apartment for Alex. I think we probably waited for more than an hour but we had wifi so that is all that matters. Alex then took us to get Francesinhas which I already had tried with Sam so I ordered pizza.

The rest of the evening was spent on the waterfront. Alex is obsessed with two stores - cork and tile shops. I think we have visited every tile and cork shop in Porto by now! He finally found a tile store he liked and picked up an iguana relief tile. We then just people watched for the rest of the evening.

For dinner Alex took us to a traditional Portuguese restaurant called Meia-Nau Porto. The food was very delicious! We ordered a seafood rice which was similar to a soup and then a seafood stew. I loved the flavors of the seafood stew and how much seafood they gave! It was all so yummy!
