If there's one thing I desperately wanted to see in the Netherlands, it is the tulip fields. The tulip fields are the Netherlands most Instagrammable attraction (are we surprised though?). The fields are privately owned by farmers and you can't walk in the fields themselves. The private fields can also only be reached if you have a car since they are about an hour and a half away. However, since tulips have become such a big attraction, they have a huge tulip garden called Keukenhof. Keukenhof is filled with beautiful displays of tulips in every color and variety! It is insane just how many tulips there were in the gardens.
The displays in Keukenhof looked like perfect floral arrangements. There were so many brightly colored tulips from bright red to big orange ones! My favorite tulip displays were the light pink ones! Oftentimes there were many colors of tulips mixed together. It was absolutely stunning to see all the tulips! Certain displays were set up like short rows of tulips which I especially enjoyed since it gave the feel of being in a tulip field. Photos don't do the tulips justice, it's just something you have to see with your own eyes.
We spent at least 4 hours admiring the tulip gardens. Toward the end of the park we climbed up a windmill and could see the nearby tulip fields right outside the park. Those fields of endless pink and yellow rows were heavily protected from tourists and had a moat built around it so tourists could not access it. Most of the fields were built this way to keep people out but there were a couple on the return bus trip that I saw were not.
Following Keukenhof, Teresa recommended I go visit the Straat museum. The Straat museum was located across from the city center so I had to hop on the free ferry that runs across to get to it. The museum is different from others in that it features street art and graffiti. I like street art and had seen the murals in Denver before leaving. The murals that I appreciated most were the more realistic ones particularly of women.
For dinner, Teresa and Mike had ordered Indian food so I gladly dined with them!
