London is my favorite city in the whole world and I could not be more excited to be back! Plus, I got to see and stay with my best friend Carissa for the first two nights in Trafalgar square!
Our first adventure of the day was to grab breakfast but specifically these cube croissants I had seen trending on Instagram. They were sold at a bakery called Le Deli Robuchon. They had 3 different varieties - vanilla, chocolate, and raspberry matcha. I opted for the chocolate one and it was filled with very fresh chocolate cream inside. It was totally worth it and I would definitely consider returning. They were so good!
I needed to have my tourist moment of "I am in London!" so Carissa and I walked past Buckingham palace and went to see Big Ben posing at every moment possible. People always ask me why I love London so much and it's a combination of things. I love the big city vibe, I am absolutely obsessed with the architecture and the amount of history the city has, the royals, how diverse the city is, how some things remind me of India, and most importantly the food! They have so many different cuisines represented given that they conquered the whole world.
I had of course already seen all of the tourist attractions when I came with my mom in 2013, but seeing them again never hurt. Big Ben still impressed me with all its gold and the sheer size of the Parliament building. The views from the water with the London eye and the rest of the river were so lovely as well. I also had to go to Tower bridge to fangirl over the bridge.
Borough market was something neither Carissa and I had done before so we decided to check it out for lunch. The market was filled with tiny vendors serving all kinds of food and it was very crowded. The giant paella dish caught my eye and Carissa and I looked at each other and before we knew it had a bowl of steaming seafood paella. It slapped! We shared the paella so we decided we still had room for one other dish. I really wanted English pies so I ordered a mushroom, asparagus and white wine English pie that was both filling and flavorful.
We were looking for free things to do that were outdoors given the very nice weather so we checked out the gardens at a church and then headed to an area known as Little Venice. The name gives away what Little Venice should be but I somehow don't believe that it was as pretty as Venice. It was a breath of fresh air though from the busy city.
It is well known that Carissa and I love going on fancy dates. Tonight, I was taking her to a restaurant called Berner’s Tavern that Paulette had previously taken me to. Berner’s Tavern speciality is Lobster Mac and Cheese so that was what we ordered. The restaurant was located in a hotel and it was fancy! The entire room was decorated with large paintings with gold farmes and ceilings ornatedly decorated with frescos resembling a palace. All the other couples were all dressed up and were much older and then there was Carissa and I looking like children. We also only ordered one appetizer and main dish. They really did try to get us with the champagne cart and all the other extras. They definitely got us with the bottled water but once we drank the entire bottle, the waiter started pouring tap water. The Lobster Mac n Cheese was heavenly! It was all in the sauce. The sauce was very rich with a hint of blue cheese. Honestly the Mac and Cheese was so good the lobster didn't add much but I love lobster so I can't complain.
Carissa really wanted to go to a British pub so I recommended Churchill Arms as it is one of the most beautifully decorated floral pubs in London. The pub was beautiful! It isn't quite yet floral season so the pub was decorated with lots of greenery instead. It was insanely crowded and lots of people were drinking outside so that was our game plan. We both ordered sweet floral drinks and then took them outside to enjoy.
Today was amazing! It's so unreal to be in London with my best friend. We just know each other so well and have similar tastes which makes decision making easy. Plus we could talk all day long! Truly a day to remember - my favorite person and my favorite city!
