Glenfinnan Viaduct

The drive from Glasgow to Isle of Skye is approximately 4 hours and we had planned to stop at a few castles and see Loch Lomond as well as the Glenfinnan Viaduct.

All the castles we had looked at were unfortunately closed so we drove to Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park. We had done some research on All Trails and picked out a couple hikes that would give a nice view of the famous Loch Lomond. Today was a very rainy and windy day and we drove to each of the trailheads only to find that those were also closed until spring. I guess we came a week too early.

The one site we did manage to see was the Glenfinnan Viaduct. The Viaduct is a railway that was built in 1901 and became famous due to the feature in the Harry Potter movies. There was a short walk there where you could view the bridge from the top of a hill and another one where you could walk under the bridge. The bridge was pretty impressive mainly since I have seen it so many times in Harry Potter. In the spring the train works and you can ride the Hogwarts Express.

We stopped to take picture of the Eilean Donan Castle in Skye but it was not the picturesque Disney castle we were looking for so we didn’t enter.
