My day started with a walk in Cubbon park where we saw the High Court of Karnataka which was a bright red building that stood out against the lush greenery of the park. I really like Cuban park as it was like a lush tropical forest in the busy city. The sounds of the birds creates such a peaceful and relaxing ambience as well.
The adventure of the day was to visit Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace and Bangalore Fort. Tipu Sultan’s palace was once the summer residence of the Mysorean ruler Tipu Sultan who had the palace built in 1791. It was constructed in the Indo-Islamic architecture style with many ornate arches, pillars, and balconies. The palace used to have floral motifs that were gold-plated with embedded jewels but since British colonization, all of that is gone. What remains is just the frame of the palace with its arches and pillars. The arches were of course painted nicely and there was a few signs to read but that was about it. Apparently the British even auctioned off Tipu Sultan’s throne.
Bangalore Fort was right nearby so we decided to check it out. The fort was initially built in 1537 out of mud and then reconstructed in the 18th century by Tipu Sultan. Now the fort is mainly in ruins so we just quickly walked around the remaining structure.
Next we went for lunch on Church St. at Social which is a Chindian restaurant. Following that Tanya had an idea to go wedding lehenga shopping so that I could try on the wedding lehengas which I had my eye on! We made up a little story about how I was from the states and getting married in June and would need outfits for the ceremony and sangeet so that they would take us seriously. I chose a shop with huge glass windows with mannequins decked out in the most shimmery outfits. A dazzling blue lehenga caught my eye in the window so I requested to try that one on. Inside, they asked if I wanted to view the exclusive wedding lehenga shop which Tanya naturally said yes to. I was pretty nervous about blowing my cover so I kept my mouth shut and expressed which ones I liked and didn’t. For the ceremony outfit he showed me a lot of completely shimmery pink outfits but I set my eyes on this deep red lengha that looked very royal. As he tied it around me I realized it weighed about 20 lbs! It was so heavy! Now I understand why the bride doesn’t move around that much. Despite the weight though it was gorgeous! I was in heaven trying on outfits with that much work and bling! They were all so beautiful. Sadly, we were not allowed to take photos or we would be making reels for days! I just tried on two outfits and then the man told us to come back with my family soon.
