Our day started with our complimentary breakfast at the resort. I love the typical South Indian breakfast of idli and sambar and would gladly eat that over anything else.
My 5-star Uber driver Clayton came with Daniel and picked us up in the afternoon for lunch. On the way, we stopped at a coconut stand for a fresh coconut. I asked for thick malai and the guy gave me a very nice coconut where the malai was so thick I could pick it up and eat it! I honestly prefer the thicker malai and feel like it is more of a snack compared to the thin malai that requires a spoon to scrape out.
Our next stop was a restaurant called Starlight. The restaurant was right on the river and had such nice views of the boats. Living in Denver after growing up with views of the Bay has made me miss the water so much. I just love the peaceful vibe and serenity of calm waters. Goa is known for the recheado masala they make from chillies and vinegar so for lunch we ordered recheado masala crabs as well as mussels and shrimp. I enjoyed eating seafood to my heart’s content!
Clayton took us to a Kakolem which is a secret beach since it is largely unknown to tourists. There was a lovely little trek to a viewpoint where you could see the jagged mountains of the coastline. The views were breathtaking! I loved being able to see the mountains next to the ocean that extended far beyond the horizon. It was golden hour so the sun was setting creating a gorgeous pink sunset as the sun, which was a big orange ball, sank. The air was also so fresh compared to Mumbai where you can barely see through the smog.
Given the secret location, there were only a few couples shooting engagement photos which meant we got the beach to ourselves. We got in the water which was very warm! I like to joke that the ocean water was warmer than my shower water. It was truly gorgeous! I was so happy to be able to swim in the water!
I convinced Clayton I wanted to see his “castle” so he took us to his cute house to meet his mom and sister. I love the houses in Goa! They are all so bright and colorful. Many are designed in the Portuguese style given that the Portuguese colonized Goa. For dinner his mother and sister took us to Joe’s River Cove where we enjoyed dancing to the live music and eating recheado masala prawns. I will never get enough recheado masala seafood! His mom even promised she would make me some recheado masala to take home with me!
