Nandi Hills

Noel suggested that we leave at 6am to visit a heritage temple that was an hour away and Nandi Hills. The temple we visited was called Sri Bhoga Nandishwara Gudi and was a twin Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva. It is one of the oldest temples in Karnataka and considered a heritage site. Unlike the other temples I had visited so far, this one was more spread out and was enclosed all around. It was made of solid stone and had several carvings in the stone depicting gods and animals. The temple was very quiet since it was early in the morning and we had the chance to walk around and view the inside. Apparently, Noel knows of this spot since he shot a wedding there.

After seeing the temple, we stopped for masala dosa at a joint at the base of Nandi hills. Nandi hills was a very steep windy hill that you drove to the top for a lookout point. I told Noel I get motion sickness so he drove very slowly which was much appreciated. Along the way we saw many monkeys who were hiding in the lush forest greenery. I had yet to see any so far and thought they were just so cute! When we arrived at the top there was a series of steps that led into the forest and eventually to what is known as Tipu’s Tipping Point. This is the location where Tipu Sultan would throw anyone he disliked off of the hill to their death. Of course now there is a big gate preventing anyone from falling over the ledge. The view from the top of the hill was impressive with views of the city below and the lakes. It was a hazy day so you couldn’t see too far but it was still a good overlook. I really enjoyed walking through the forest area and seeing all of the monkeys which were everywhere. Was a nice nature hike!
