Juhu Beach

The morning was spent setting up Grandma’s Christmas tree and then we went to Val’s place for a fish thali lunch. I finally got to eat the famous Bombay duck. I remember Bombay Duck as having millions of edible bones that terrified me as a child. I was reassured this time there were no bones and it was true. There were some white strands but no hard bones and it was actually quite a tasty fish.

After lunch grandma took me to Bandra to do some shopping! We went to Elco Mall which was hundreds of little shops in an indoor setting. There were so many shops that I think we ended up going round and round getting lost a little bit too. The way I shop is if something catches my eye which is sometimes difficult in these shops where the outfits are folded so neatly and put away. Once you ask them to unfold the outfit they also put pressure if you even insinuate you like one outfit and try so hard to find others. There was one green Indian gown that caught my eye. I have had my eye out for an emerald green outfit as I don’t own anything in that color yet. I think my grandma prefers outfits with less work but I am all for the sequins and stones. The green gown I had seen on the mannequin turns out was not stitched so I decided to take it and he took my measurements. The man reassured me that most of the work he does is for foreigners and he copies designer gowns and sells them at a fraction of the price. So heres to my knock-off designer gown! I hope it looks good!

Following our shopping excursion which we also ended up picking up a ridiculously priced Christma tree for Nisha, we went for a walk on Juhu beach with Val. Juhu beach has been cleaned up from what I remember. I remember walking with my mom years ago and it was littered with trash and we even saw someone doing their business so we turned around. Now, the beach is much cleaner and apparently there are volunteer organizations that come every so often to maintain it. The street vendors selling their little knick-knacks and food have also been banned which creates a much more pleasant environment. The beach was quite crowded with lots of groups and couples walking at sunset. For dinner we ate at Sun and Sand hotel which was a very upscale hotel on the waterfront. Dinner was very good and had a great seaside ambience. They even gave me a complimentary cake!
