Colaba is the southernmost tip of Mumbai and considered to be "town". I met Sneha at St. Xavier's college which was a huge building in the British colonial style. In fact most of the historic buildings in Colaba were built in European architectural style. Given that Sneha only eats pasta and pizza we ate at a small cafe called poetry, love, and cheesecake. Then we headed for Colaba causeway which is a strip of tons and tons of small street vendors. Each vendor has a display case on the sidewalk lining both sides leaving only a small walkway for people to pass. It was also covered with an enclosure making it quite claustrophobic. There were so many people passing through both directions pushing past you at all times. I was looking for little gold junkas so every time we passed an earring stand I had to look and see if I could find small gold ones. A lot of the vendors sold very similar if not the same stuff but towards the end I finally found one vendor selling gold ones that were not too heavy. Sneha bought several jerseys in lieu of the world cup.
The next stop was Gateway of Mumbai. I have seen gateway before but figured I might as well get a photo since we were right there. The Gateway was built in 1924 in the Indo-Islamic style for King George who was the first monarch to visit India. Of course it was insanely crowded and Sneha was joking that the entire population of California was likely in that tiny square trying to get a photo. I liked that the gateway was right on the water where tons of boats going to the islands nearby were. The Taj Palace Hotel was right across as well but we were unsuccessful in our attempt to enter and check it out.
