Today I visited Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya Museum also known as Prince of Whales Museum. I have fun attempting to say that name over and over and think I have finally got it down after spending some time practicing. The museum is one of the most well known in Mumbai and contains over 50,000 exhibits of ancient Indian history.
Sonali had arranged for me to go to the museum with her friend Clayton so I met him at Maria's house and went. He was going to take me on his bike but apparently scooters are not allowed on the flyaways and the back road is filled with big trucks so we took a taxi to be safe.
The museum contained all sorts of art from ancient times to modern. The first few exhibits we looked at were modern abstract art. We had fun trying to interpret what we were looking at but it wasn't my style. The museum was filled with statues and carvings of Hindu gods. Some were carved from stone while other sculptures were painted with bright colors. My favorite exhibit from the museum was the ancient Indian Hindu paintings. These paintings were done on papyrus depicting scenes of Krishna. I love the gold that is utilized in the paintings that really makes it stand out.
Once we were done with the museum we went to Sonali’s boyfriend's house. Her boyfriend Daniel had so many birds! I especially liked his African Parrot. From there she really wanted to take me to the sweet shop. I didn’t know what to expect from the sweet shop but it was very cute as they were gearing up for Christmas. I had some cheese kulcha, dhokla, and a fusion dish of bhel with avocado. They also gave me a sampling of some very nice sweets! At the end of the day I finally got my bike ride from Daniel. I might have enjoyed that a little too much as I love a good adrenaline rush.
