Vanessa's Farewell Party

I was awoken to the sound of the doorbell and Maria said come quickly with your camera. At the door was the seafood man delivering fresh fish and seafood to the door. I had never seen them come to the door before and he so cutely posed for me holding up a crab. Maria purchased some fresh prawns for a curry later. Eugene had made me a prawn curry earlier in the week and it was divine. I love home cooked Indian food more than any other food in the world.

Our main errand of the day was to go with Tanya to the tailor to get our bridesmaid dresses stitched. I honestly hadn't thought that much about what design I wanted so I had Tanya help me pick out a design. I settled on a square neck with waterfall sleeves and slit. The tailor took my measurements and will stitch the dress accordingly. I always forget how common and easy it is to get outfits made for you here.

Following the tailor, Sonali took Sneha and I to her friend Vanessa's house for a farewell party. Vanessa is relocating to Canada in a few days so they brought everyone together to say goodbye. I had met most of Sonali's friends back in December but it was so nice to meet them all again! The party was held at Vanessa's house which overlooked a very green park. I really liked the living room aesthetic which was full of plants and elephant statues. It was cozy and hip.

I love all of Sonali's friends! They are all so welcoming and friendly towards me. I really enjoy meeting new people and this was the perfect opportunity. Gabby, who I had met yesterday at the movies, was there and between pressuring me to take whisky shots and cuddling up on the couch, we became best friends. I introduced myself to everyone that night and offered myself as an intern on the off chance that anyone needed one. After all, I have already tapped into the network interviewing at both Daniel and Nicole’s workplace.

The invitation Vanessa had sent out said the party was from noon to 6pm but everyone knew that was a joke and most people showed up past 6pm. We arrived at 4pm and knew it was going to be a long evening. It was a ton of fun! The 98% extraverted Preeti was thriving! We danced, ate, drank, played games, and most of all spent time with one another.

Of course the night was not complete without bringing up the member of the group who lives in Goa - Clayton. Claytons cousin Rivson arrived and I knew it was trouble from the moment he walked in. He had Clayton video call him and then passed the phone off to me. I was quite literally dying of embarrassment but then I guess this is what I get. So I gave the people what they wanted and sucked it up and talked to him for a little. Very awkward given that we stopped talking when I went abroad and neither of us have hit each other up since. Even though I was shaking from embarrassment, I survived.

A couple of Sonali’s friends had been to the U.S. and they loved poking fun at how American I was but it was all good-natured. I loved meeting and hanging out with all of Sonali’s circle.

What an article - Who is Vanessa? It is not clear in this blogpost - I think it should be retitled- 'The Day my life changed - Gabby came along'
