First Day of Work

I have officially survived my first day of work! I have been trying to secure an internship since the beginning of July but Maria was right. I just needed to show up in India. In fact it's been only a week and I already have a job. I received two offers - one working with Daniel at Edelman and the other with Nicole at Eastern Travels. Edelman was probably closer to what I will be doing at Accenture while Eastern Travels connects to my passion of traveling! Eastern Travels is a luxury travel agency so what is more fitting at this time in my life.

Yesterday I had gone to the office by cab in lower Parel and it has been pretty stressful taking a cab by myself and finding the place. Nicole was nice enough to let me send her my location so she could point me in the right direction if I got lost. The only difficulty I ran into was that I didn't have change so the driver very happily took 200 rupees for a 115 rupee ride. I was trying to be on time for my interview so I couldn't complain.

Today taking a cab was easier and only took 15 minutes in the morning. At least I knew where I was going which helped. I arrived way earlier than everyone else but on the bright side I wasn't late for my first day.

I was working directly with Nicole so she started by giving me an induction presentation. Then, I had my first assignment of creating itinerary highlights for a series of countries. Luck for me, I started with all the European countries I have been to which made it easier. I kept on having to remind myself these were luxury experiences not my budget experiences.

Overall, I really loved the job. I will mainly be researching destinations, finding off the beaten path activities to do, helping with website content, and social media.

Tanvi helped me get a cab on the way home which I was very grateful for as I was told traffic would be so bad I might not get one. Traffic was bad but I've sat in worse. I always wonder how there aren't more accidents but I saw one today. A big garbage truck had knocked the bumper off a smaller car and the two drivers were having at each other in the middle of the street. Of course I couldn't understand what they were saying.
