Can you believe I have been in India for a whole month and not gone shopping? Neither can I! I have been so busy with work that I just haven't had the time and haven't had the right person to go with. Well I found the perfect person and we all know exactly who that is - best friend Gabby!
Since Sneha came down with chicken pox I have been hopping around a little bit. I stayed with Val for one night, Gabby, and then Johnathan & Mitali's place was empty so I have been sleeping there. They conveniently live right across from Gabby so I spend the evenings with Gabby and her mom cooks us dinner. Incredibly grateful for Gabby for being so kind and letting me stay at her place and feed me. I will definitely be back there for more sleepovers.
Today's adventure was to Crawford market since I mentioned I wanted to buy some kurtas for work. The cab dropped us off right at the first place we looked for outfits. My eyes were immediately drawn to the bling of a very shiny outfit and I pointed to it so he brought out various colors in my size. My favorite part about the markets is the bargaining aspect. I can’t bargain so I entertained myself by watching Gabby do it. He rattled off 800 for a sparkly kurta I liked and she said the other fellow was selling for 300 rupees so she started to walk away. He lowered the price a bit and she turned to walk away again until he brought it down to 600. I hadn’t even fully decided if I wanted it and it was mine! I guess at the market if you see something you like you bargain for it and leave.
Most of the vendors at Crawford market were selling pajamas or kids clothes. I saw some sequin pants and knew I just had to get them! There was one other kurta place. This place was no fun though as he had a sign that said no bargaining, fixed prices only. Of course the clothes were still cheaper than anything in the stores. I did have more time to look and decide what I wanted to buy here though. I ended up with a dark blue and white short kurta and then a light purple one he threw in at the last minute since it was my size.
Shopping done, we went to eat pav bhaji at Badshah. Gabby said this place was famous for its pav bhaji so we split one. I really enjoyed it and it tasted very different from the way the maid usually cooked it. For dessert we had one of my favorite desserts - falooda! Falooda brings back so many memories of when my mom would make it for us as kids. I can already sense more falooda in the future.
I absolutely love Gabby and am 100% obsessed! I say I am going for a run and she asks if she can come. She says she is going to get her eyebrows done and I ask if I can come along. It all just works out so I am trying to spend as much time with her as possible! Plus it's even better that we like the same foods too. We have such a long list of foods we want to eat. It's also so nice to have someone take me around.
